Hi, I'm Maggi
come along on my new adventure.
I arrived in Austin, Texas one year ago with my boyfriend, our dog, and a seriously lopsided U-Haul trailer*. Our new home city has welcomed us with twelve months of glorious nature, hot sunshine, live music, a vibrant wellness community and more breakfast tacos than our Hoboken, NJ apartment could probably fit!
(*I highly recommend driving cross country at least once, but would not recommend packing your trailer after an all-night surprise going away party, or doing so the morning of a Yoga Therapeutics training final exam.)
Spending my twenties and the early part of my thirties in the New York City area led me to incredible opportunities and moments of growth. Having grown up in nearby Southern Connecticut, I had my heart set on New York from an early age. I went to college, worked in fashion and luxury public relations, studied Italian, switched careers to became an Executive Assistant, took up bartending on the side (so I could enjoy all of the restaurants and shops that Manhattan is famous for), and volunteered in the community. I made soul satisfying friendships, worked tirelessly for great bosses, stood up to less than great bosses, connected with mentors, fell in love, experienced heartbreak. I left jobs with no back up plan. I felt lost and then inspired again. I tried yoga for the first time, and practiced with lineage holders and visionary teachers. I later began teaching yoga alongside my ‘day job’ and experienced the true fulfillment that comes with serving others.
Nearly thirteen years flew by in what felt like an instant. My desire for fast-paced living eventually shifted into a desire for intentional living. With the support of my family and friends, I worked up the guts to leave my ‘familiar’ behind.
A year later, we’re still settling into new jobs, turning our apartment into a home, exploring neighborhoods, and making new friends. At the advice of my mentor, I've spent much of the last year simply embodying my yoga practice. I had just finished my 516th hour of yoga teacher training before we moved and although I’d only been teaching in New York for a few months, I relished having the time to recalibrate. The time has allowed me to experience classes at studios all over Austin, and talk with different teachers, studio owners and students. The yoga offering is so diverse and the souls I’ve encountered are truly sweet.
Yoga teaches us that the only constant in our lives is change. What we make of that change is up to us. I wholeheartedly believe that we're just once choice away from growing, changing and multitasking our way towards our truest, most authentic selves.
I can't wait to share more of my Austin journey with you. Here's to Year 2!
